Global and Arab celebrities gathered in Saudi Arabia’s capital on Saturday night for the 2023 Joy Awards that took place at Bakr al-Sheddi Theater in Boulevard Riyadh City.

The third edition of the Joy Awards were nothing short of spectacular as international filmmakers, singers, tv personalities, athletes and social media influencers were celebrated for their work in the past year.

A flurry of Lifetime achievement awards were bestowed on entertainment personalities from across the globe, including Actor/Director Mel Gibson, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, Director Michael Bay, Saudi singer Rashed Al-Majed, and Kuwaiti actresses Hayat Al Fahd and Suad Abdullah.

Among the top names who were honoured at the 2023 Joy Awards were Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara who won the Personality of the Year Award, Morocco and PSG footballer Achraf Hakimi won Athlete of the Year accolade, Lebanese star Nadine Nassib Nejim won Best TV Actress.

Meanwhile, Tunisian Hend Sabry and her co-star Egyptian Ahmed Ezz bagged the Best female and male Film Actor Award respectively for their film “Keera Wal Jin” that also won Best Film Award.

Other top winners of the night included Saudi singer Abdul Majid Abdullah, Syrian singer Assala, Egyptian singer Angham, Spanish actress Esther Acebo, and Lebanese social media influencer Abir El Saghir.

In what was a major surprise appearance, media personality Georgina Rodriguez, who just moved to Saudi Arabia with her partner Cristiano Ronaldo, was in attendance and also presented the Female Athlete of the Year Award to Saudi swimmer Mariam Saleh bin Laden.

The night was full of entertainment, with performances from Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram, Egyptian singer Ahmed Saad, Iraqi singer Rahma Riad,  Nigerian singer Rema, Saudi singer Dalia Mubarak, and Egyptian band Cairokee among others.

The star-studded night was filled with celebrities presenting and in attendance, including the likes of Turkish duo Demet Özdemir and Engin Akyürek, Saudi singer Mohammed Abdou, Egyptian actress Yusra, Egyptian comedian Mohammed Henedy and power couple Mona Zaki and Ahmed Helmi.

The Joy Awards was hosted by Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and is part of Vision 2030’s Quality of Life Program that aims at positioning the Kingdom as a touristic destination as well as diversifying cultural, social and entertainment activities.
