Dense Fog Disrupts Flights at Bahrain International Airport
Heavy early-morning fog reduces visibility, causing delays and diversions at Bahrain’s main airport.
A wave of dense fog in the early hours of Tuesday, February 10, disrupted operations at Bahrain International Airport, forcing delays and the diversion of several flights as poor visibility hampered safe aircraft movement, authorities and flight-tracking data show.
According to FlightRadar tracking information, the thick fog that blanketed parts of the kingdom significantly reduced visibility, prompting precautionary measures including the rerouting of inbound flights to neighbouring Gulf hubs such as King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
The official airport schedule also reflected multiple delays and rescheduling of both arriving and departing services. Among the most affected were flights to and from major regional and international destinations, including London, Kuwait, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
The interruptions occurred in the early morning when the fog was at its thickest, before conditions gradually improved and flight operations started returning to normal later in the day.
Meteorological authorities in Bahrain had issued advisories about reduced horizontal visibility due to fog, especially during pre-dawn hours, a typical winter weather pattern influenced by high humidity and cooler night temperatures.
Passengers affected by delays and diversions were advised to stay in close contact with their airlines for updated flight information, while airport officials emphasised that safety remained the top priority in all operational decisions.
The disruption underscores the impact that seasonal fog can have on air travel in the Gulf, where similar weather-related delays have affected other regional airports in recent years.
