Bahrain Announces a Holiday for the Prophet's Birthday

Bahrain has officially declared Thursday, September 4, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday. The announcement was made through a circular issued by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.

According to the circular, the holiday will fall on 12 Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1447 AH, corresponding to September 4 in the Gregorian calendar. On this occasion, all ministries, authorities, and public institutions across the Kingdom will remain closed, giving citizens and residents the opportunity to commemorate the day.

The Prophet’s Birthday, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi, is an important date in the Islamic calendar. It is observed with prayers, religious gatherings, and community activities that honor the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The holiday provides an opportunity for reflection, charity, and family gatherings, marking it as both a spiritual and cultural occasion in Bahrain.

By announcing the holiday, Bahrain aligns with other Muslim-majority countries in recognizing this significant day in the Islamic year. With the long weekend falling on a Thursday, many residents are expected to take advantage of the extended break for family time, community celebrations, and religious observances.

The declaration reflects Bahrain’s ongoing commitment to preserving Islamic traditions and ensuring that such significant religious occasions are honored at a national level.
