King Fahd Causeway Temporarily Closed

Vehicle traffic across the King Fahd Causeway, the vital land bridge connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, was temporarily suspended on Monday, according to an announcement from the King Fahd Causeway Authority.

The authority confirmed the closure via a statement posted on the social media platform X, citing "emergency alerts" issued within Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province as the reason for the suspension. The statement did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the alerts, the duration of the closure, or whether the situation posed an immediate threat to travelers.

"The closure follows emergency alerts issued in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province," the authority stated, urging drivers to seek alternative routes or wait for further updates.

The King Fahd Causeway, opened in 1986, serves as the primary land connection between the two Gulf nations, facilitating the movement of thousands of commuters, commercial vehicles, and tourists daily. The bridge spans approximately 25 kilometers (16 miles) across the Persian Gulf, linking Khobar in Saudi Arabia to Isa Town in Bahrain.

Authorities have not yet indicated when normal operations will resume. Travelers attempting to cross the border were advised to monitor official channels for real-time updates before attempting to travel.
