Norway Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Palestine

Norway announced on Thursday, April 24, that it will establish diplomatic relations with the State of Palestine.
The announcement came when the Palestinian ambassador to Norway, Marie Sedin, had a formal presentation of her credentials.
Sedin presented her credentials to His Majesty King Harald of Norway at the Royal Palace.

Other than Norway, 12 European countries have recognized Palestine as a sovereign state, and 148 out of 193 United Nations' member states have formally recognized Palestine.
Norway decided to formally recognize Palestine on May 22 last year. The country has constantly emphasized that Palestine has the right to self-determination with Oslo supporting a two-state solution.
Norway became the first European country to announce that it would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he entered the country because the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the Israeli PM in November last year for his crimes against humanity in Gaza.
