Shahi Tukda is a dessert that is popular in the Indian subcontinent and it is made of bread, sugar syrup, milk and nuts. This sweet dish is an ideal dessert for iftar because its sweetness improves energy levels after a tiring day of fasting and its soft and creamy is a treat to the taste buds.

Shahi Tukda Ingredients
6 slices bread
2 to 3 tbsp ghee
Sugar Syrup Ingredients
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
1/2 tsp rose water
Rabi Ingredients
3 1/2 cups milk
4 tbsp sugar
1 pinch saffron
20 almonds, soaked in water and chopped

  1. Shahi Tukda Preparation

    Toast bread slices. Soak saffron strands in 2 tbsp of hot milk.
  2. Make Rabdi

    Blend almonds with 3 tbsp sugar, cardamom powder, and 1/4 cup milk in a blender to make a smooth paste. Add the paste to 3 1/2 cups of milk and boil on a low flame until it thickens. Set aside to cool.
  3. Make Sugar Syrup

    Mix sugar with water and boil in a saucepan until it thickens. Add rose essence and mix it properly with the syrup.
  4. Make Shahi Tukda and Serve

    Cut toasted bread slices diagonally and soak in sugar syrup, then place them on a serving plate. Pour rabdi over the bread and garnish with nuts and serve.
