- Publish date: since 3 days

The Syrian authorities have issued a directive, instructing women to wear modest swimwear on public beaches, recommending burkinis.
The country's Ministry of Tourism issued the latest regulation on Tuesday, June 11.
The Minister of Tourism, Mazen Al Salhani, said about the regulation, "Visitors to public beaches and pools, whether tourists or locals, are required to wear appropriate swimwear that takes into account public taste and the sensibilities of various segments of society."
The statement also said, "More modest swimwear is required at public beaches and pools (burkinis or swimsuits that cover more of the body)."
On the public beaches, men are also required to wear shirts when not swimming.
In addition to these guidelines, the statement instructed people to wear loose-fitting robes over swimwear, to avoid topless clothing, to avoid transparent and tight clothing, and to wear loose-fitted clothing in public areas other than beaches and swimming pools.
People are only permitted to wear "western swimwear" in resorts, hotels, and private beaches. The swimwear will only be allowed if "appropriate behaviour is adhered to".
