Verstappen Secures Pole Position in Bahrain Grand Prix 2024

Max Verstappen secured pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix in the season's first qualifying session, narrowly outperforming Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Mercedes' George Russell. Verstappen's impressive first Q3 run clocked 1m 29.421s, and he further improved to 1m 29.179s in the second run, finishing two-tenths ahead of Leclerc, with Russell a tenth behind in third.

He said, "It was a lot of fun. The track had a lot of grip but with the wind the last two days, it was tricky to get the whole lap together. It was the same in qualifying."

"To really get everything out of it in Q3 was a little more difficult but I'm very happy to be on pole. It was a little bit unexpected but luckily in qualifying the car came to us and I felt a bit happier with the whole car," he further added.

Carlos Sainz secured a double for Ferrari, claiming the fourth spot, while Sergio Perez of Red Bull settled for fifth, almost half a second slower than Verstappen. Fernando Alonso led Aston Martin in sixth, followed by McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton took the ninth spot in the second Mercedes machine.

Nico Hulkenberg's strong performance in qualifying saw him rounding out the top 10, providing a significant boost for Haas. Yuki Tsunoda just missed out on Q3, finishing in 11th place, closely followed by Lance Stroll of Aston Martin and Alex Albon of Williams.

Daniel Ricciardo secured 14th place, trailing his teammate Tsunoda, while Kevin Magnussen of Haas took 15th, losing out in the intra-team battle to Hulkenberg by seven-tenths.

The Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying showcased intense competition, setting the stage for an exciting race. The Red Bull and Ferrari rivalry, coupled with strong performances from drivers across the grid, adds anticipation to the opening event of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
