Pope Francis (1936–2025)

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis became the first Jesuit pope and the first from Latin America. He was elected in 2013 and led the Church for 12 years, focusing on compassion, inclusion, and reform. He passed away at the age of 88, in April 21, 2025 after facing multiple health challenges, including pneumonia early 2025.

Pope Benedict XVI (1927–2022)

Born Joseph Ratzinger in Germany, Pope Benedict XVI served from 2005 to 2013. He made history by resigning due to health reasons, becoming the first pope in centuries to step down. He died on December 31, 2022, at the age of 95.

Pope John Paul II (1920–2005)

Born Karol Józef Wojtyła in Poland, he served as pope from 1978 until his death in 2005. Known for his global influence, he was one of the most recognized leaders of the Church. He passed away at the age of 84 after battling Parkinson’s disease.

Pope John Paul I (1912–1978)

Born Albino Luciani in Italy, he was elected in August 1978 but died just 33 days later, in September 1978. His papacy was one of the shortest in history.
