The first humans to set foot on the Moon were in 1969 and, despite their many efforts, the next crewed lunar landing was not until the 1970s. This does sound surprising to many – especially with the level of technology that we have today. But space professionals and astronauts have other views than most people realize, however. It's not just a return to the Moon. Lunar exploration was greatly slowed following the end of the Apollo era due to various factors, including political, funding, safety, and shifting scientific priorities.
