Camping Season Suspended Until Further Notice
Southern Governorate halts winter camping activities amid safety concerns for residents and visitors.
The Southern Governorate has announced the suspension of the ongoing camping season as of March 2, 2026, citing current circumstances and the safety of citizens, residents and visitors to desert areas.
In an official notice issued by local authorities, camping activities that normally draw families and outdoor enthusiasts to locations such as the Sakhir desert and other designated sites will no longer continue until further notice.
The decision follows concerns over regional tensions affecting public safety, prompting the governorate to take proactive measures to prevent risks associated with large gatherings in open desert environments.
Authorities have not yet specified when the camping season, traditionally running through the cooler winter months, will resume. Residents and visitors were advised to dismantle temporary camps and comply with directives issued by officials.
The suspension affects both recreational campers and those participating in social or cultural activities outdoors, as the governorate reviews conditions and works to ensure that safety standards are met before reopening desert sites for public use.
