If you live or visit Dubai, you will always witness long queues at Karak stalls. It is a lifestyle and who would not want to have it?!

As we have been accustomed to, the UAE's love story with karak chai is well-known and it can't be just like any other place.  This is where 'Food ka Mood', a new fusion cuisine restaurant in Dubai's Karama, puts the UAE's love for rich, spice-peppered karak to the test by launching a '24K gold tea'. Infused with pure 24-karat gold flakes, this cuppa is a combination of 'zafraan' and 'karak' tea flavours and costs Dh51.

After the tea is brewed, the gold flakes are delicately placed over a thick foam of white milk and crushed saffron.

Its creator and tea specialist Zankar Uchat said: "I whipped up this recipe during the Covid-19 lockdown. It took me two months to figure out the right blend of flavours that would enhance the metallic flavour of gold.

"I only prepare the tea with fresh cow's milk," she added.

The restaurant plans to launch the product on Dhanteras - which falls ahead of the Indian festival Diwali - on Friday, November 13.

Zankar, a Mumbai-native, found her love for preparing exotic beverages during her time in culinary school in India. "Tea is my favourite beverage. I love experimenting with tea and creating fun creations."

Food ka Mood's co-owner Bharvi Bhaty said this year has been difficult for many people due to the pandemic. "During Dhanteras, Hindus celebrating Diwali purchase some gold because it is considered auspicious. May be this year, many people cannot afford to buy gold. Instead, we are giving people the option to experience gold tea."
