Low-Pressure System Drives Fourth Day of Storms as Temperatures Plunge to 18°C

Unstable weather conditions have gripped the Kingdom of Bahrain for a fourth consecutive day, bringing a fresh wave of scattered thunderstorms and powerful gusts that disrupted daily life across the archipelago. The latest bout of severe weather began around midnight on Friday, March 27, following a day of instability that started on Thursday, March 26.

The Meteorological Directorate reported that wind speeds during the storm exceeded 40 knots, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and maritime activities. Simultaneously, the heavy rains and cloud cover drove temperatures down to approximately 21°C, a noticeable dip from the region's typical warmth.

Meteorological Causes

The persistent turbulence is attributed to a significant low-pressure system currently affecting the Kingdom. This atmospheric disturbance has facilitated the formation of cumulonimbus clouds—dense, towering clouds associated with thunderstorms—and intensified wind activity. The combination of these factors has resulted in ongoing weather fluctuations that show no immediate sign of abating.

Earlier in the day, the Meteorological Directorate at the Ministry of Transport and Communications had warned that thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds would likely persist until noon. However, the system proved more resilient, extending its impact well into the night and early morning hours.

Cooling Trend Ahead

Residents are bracing for even cooler conditions in the coming days. The Meteorological Directorate has forecasted a further decline in temperatures, with readings expected to drop to around 18°C by Saturday and continuing through Sunday. This sharp temperature fluctuation marks a significant shift in the local climate pattern, driven by the lingering low-pressure system.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, particularly regarding driving in wet conditions and securing loose outdoor items against the strong gusts. As the weather system continues to evolve, the Meteorological Directorate advises citizens to stay tuned for further updates and advisories.
