Bahrain’s Council of Representatives has green-lit a substantial infrastructure investment, approving BD 128.6 million for Phase Two of the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street development project during a parliamentary session on Wednesday, February 11.
The funding will be directed toward expanding the road to four lanes in each direction, building five flyover bridges, and upgrading Sheikh Salman Al-Fateh Street, key moves aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving road capacity and connectivity across the Kingdom.
Lawmakers described the project as critical to modernising Bahrain’s transport infrastructure and enhancing the daily commute for residents and visitors alike. The expanded road network is expected to boost traffic flow and help reduce travel times in some of the country’s busiest corridors.
The approval came as part of a broader legislative agenda during the session, in which MPs also passed amendments to pension law, increased marriage grants for eligible citizens, and adjusted housing sector regulations to support first-time homeowners.
In addition to road upgrades, Parliament referred multiple proposals to the government, covering areas such as healthcare infrastructure, support for students with ADHD, the launch of a national home renovation platform for low-income families, and updates to digital traffic documentation systems.
The road development initiative aligns with Bahrain’s broader infrastructure goals to improve mobility, attract investment, and support socio-economic growth, continuing the Kingdom’s push to modernise its transport networks in line with regional development priorities.
