The joint session brought together Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, Shura Council Chairman Ali Al Saleh, and members from both houses. Dr. Al Zayani gave a detailed update on Bahrain’s role as president of the 33rd Arab Summit and its continued contributions at the 34th summit in Baghdad.

Palestine, Gaza, and the Two-State Solution

Dr. Al Zayani highlighted several key proposals Bahrain made during the Arab Summit held in May 2024. These included pushing for an international conference focused on the Palestinian issue and a two-state solution. He also emphasized Bahrain’s clear support for Palestine to gain full UN membership.

Another major priority: helping to rebuild Gaza. Bahrain is actively backing Egypt’s efforts in this area and has put forward ideas in crucial sectors like education, healthcare, and digital finance to support long-term recovery.

King Hamad’s Diplomatic Drive

The Foreign Minister also revealed the personal involvement of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who has visited global capitals including Moscow, Beijing, London, and Paris to promote the summit’s outcomes and rally international backing.

In March 2025, Bahrain co-chaired a special summit in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, where a detailed Gaza recovery plan was endorsed.

Tracking Progress and Moving Forward

To keep the momentum going, Bahrain has formed a national committee, led by Dr. Al Zayani himself, to track the outcomes of the Bahrain Summit. A full report was submitted to the Arab League and presented again at the Baghdad summit.

Bahrain also hosted a number of key regional gatherings this year, including the 54th Arab Information Ministers’ meeting and the 44th session of Social Affairs Ministers.

Campaigning for a UN Security Council Seat

Bahrain is now campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term. Dr. Al Zayani said the campaign is rooted in three pillars: peace, human dignity, and long-term development.

Bahraini diplomats have been actively engaging with UN bodies, Arab-Islamic groups, and global partners to advance these goals, especially in relation to Palestine and Gaza.

Strong Support at Home

Members of both Bahrain’s parliamentary chambers expressed strong support for the Foreign Ministry’s efforts and pledged to help push Bahrain’s proposals through diplomatic and legislative channels.
