Mohamed Samir Nada Wins the Int'l Prize for Arabic Fiction

Egyptian author Mohamed Samir Nada won the 2025 International Prize for Arabic Fiction for his poetic novel 'The Prayer Anxiety' on Thursday, April 24, in Abu Dhabi.

Nada was awarded a cash prize of $50,000 at the award ceremony in the UAE capital. The author will also receive additional funding for an English translation.

Masciliana has published the author's novel, which is about an isolated village in Upper Egypt where the residents believe that they are surrounded by a minefield.

They do know what is happening in the world, except for the war waging against Israel for a decade. They only know that their village will be the first line of defence, keeping the enemy from entering their country.

Mohamed Samir Nada has worked in the tourism sector and currently holds the position of the financial director in Cairo. Alongside this work, Nada has written novels and cultural commentary for Egyptian newspapers.

His other works include 'Malika's Kingdom' and 'The Confession of the Walls'.

Alongside Nada, the nominees were Emirati writer Nadia Najar for The Touch of Light, Mauritanian novelist Ahmed Fal Al Din for Danshmand, and Iraqi writer Azher Jirjees for The Valley of the Butterflies.

All shortlisted authors were awarded $10,000 each.
