Tamkeen Suspends Wage Support for April

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority's Tamkeen agency has announced a temporary suspension of all wage support and increment payments scheduled for April 2026. This significant administrative shift follows new government directives aimed at covering the salaries of insured Bahraini employees in the private sector through the Unemployment Insurance Fund. The move represents a strategic realignment of resources to provide direct support to the labor market and ensure economic stability across the Kingdom.

The suspension affects all Bahraini employees currently enrolled in Tamkeen’s support initiatives. This includes participants in the National Employment Program as well as those benefiting from various apprenticeship and leadership development schemes. By pausing these specific disbursements, the government intends to streamline financial mechanisms, ensuring that the Unemployment Insurance Fund is utilized effectively to safeguard national employment and maintain the continuity of business operations during this transitional period.

To manage this transition, the Social Insurance Organization (SIO) has issued specific instructions for the private sector. Employers are required to register their eligible employees through the SIO's official website no later than April 28, 2026. This registration is a prerequisite for the new reimbursement model, which is designed to replace the previous Tamkeen-led payment structure for the month of April.

Under the new arrangement, businesses are expected to continue paying their staff salaries as usual without interruption. The SIO will subsequently reimburse the establishments for these costs by April 30, 2026. This coordinated effort between the SIO and the Ministry of Labour underscores a broader legislative initiative to fortify the social protection umbrella for the Bahraini workforce. By leveraging the unemployment fund directly, the government aims to create a more resilient framework for job security while supporting the financial health of private sector enterprises.
