Bahrain Free of 'Contaminated' India-Made Cough Syrup

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about cough syrup manufactured in India, however, the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) has confirmed that there is no "contaminated" cough syrup in the markets of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The syrups, manufactured by the Indian company Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd., were reportedly found to contain the deadly toxins ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG), which are also found in brake fluid for automobiles.
The NHRA stressed that it does not permit the entry of any products that are not manufactured in approved and registered factories in the Kingdom in a statement, indicating that the aforementioned cough syrup is not registered in the Kingdom and has therefore not been imported to the Bahraini market.
As Bahrain adopts stringent measures to ensure the health, safety, and efficacy of all medicines, in a way that guarantees the preservation of the citizens' and residents' health and safety, the NHRA also reaffirmed its concern for the safety of pharmaceuticals and medicines passing in the Kingdom.
