Bahrain Announces Public Holiday for New Year 2026

Bahrain has officially declared Thursday, January 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark the New Year, covering all government ministries, state departments, and public institutions.

The announcement was confirmed through an official circular issued by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.

The decision grants government employees a full day off as the Kingdom welcomes New Year 2026, allowing citizens and residents to celebrate, attend community events, and enjoy leisure activities scheduled for the holiday.

According to the circular, the closure applies across all public sector entities on the day, ensuring workers are able to take part in festivities marking the beginning of the year.

The move continues Bahrain’s longstanding practice of recognizing New Year’s Day as an official holiday, reflecting the nation’s cultural and social engagement with global celebrations.

Officials note that the holiday also supports family-oriented gatherings, tourism activity, and seasonal entertainment happening across the country.
