Blast from the Past: Did Salman Khan hit Aishwarya Rai when together?

It is no hidden fact that Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were together in the past. They reportedly fell in love with the sets of the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). However, things got ugly pretty quick. They made it to every gossip and controversies column back in 2000-2002. Their relationship took a different turn when Aishwarya Rai confessed that she was physically abused in the relationship.

As per reports, things got bitter during the year 2001. Eyewitnesses had earlier shared that In November 2001, Salman reached Aishwarya's apartment and kept banging on the door, asking her to let him in. Others add that the actor even threatened to commit suicide if she didn't comply. The entire brawl apparently went on till early in the morning when Aishwarya finally let Salman in. Some say that Salman's hands were apparently bleeding at the time. 

People doubted the status of the relationship when Aishwarya Rai had come with a black eye for an award function. A few months later, she had expressed the reason for the breakup by accusing Salman Khan of abuse. Aishwarya said in an interview, "He would call me and talk rubbish. He also suspected that I was having affairs with my co-stars. There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks and I would go to work as if nothing happened." She added that despite the abuse that she went through, she stood by Salman in his worst times and endured the outcomes of his alcoholic nature. 

 

Later, Salman Khan replied back to Aishwarya Rai's statement and said in an interview, "If you won't fight, that means there is no love between you, I will not fight with an outsider; when we fight, it is all because of our love." He also said in an interview a few months later "I get emotional and hurt myself. I have banged my head against the wall but I cannot hurt anyone else," he stated. 

Once in a press release, Aishwarya when asked about working with Salman Khan said, "For my well-being and for the self-respect of my family, I will not work with Mr. Salman Khan. The chapter about Salman Khan was a nightmare in my life. I am thankful that it is over now."

After their controversial breakup, the two never crossed paths but it remains to be the most controversial relationship and the breakup in Bollywood.
