Workers are Demanding Early Implementation of Outdoor Work Ban

Bahrain is expecting the highest temperatures of the year in June and workers are starting to demand an extension of the ban on outdoor work during summer.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, starting in July of each year, workers will be allowed to benefit from a two-month summer work ban to be protected from the hot weather.

Throughout July and August, this rule will ban workers from working outside between noon and 4 pm. Several workers are requiring that the prohibition extend to cover June as well.

They are complaining to have regular headaches and sickness after working morning shifts outdoors and instead would like to work nighttime shifts.

Lyn Le Altarejos, Director of Foreign Workers' Rights at Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS), highlighted that the dangers & the risks of working outside in this hot and humid weather, particularly for construction workers are huge.
