Runaway Rate of Foreign Workers in Bahrain Falls to 0.2%

Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan announces a significant drop in the departure rate of foreign workers in Bahrain, now standing at a mere 0.2%, attributed to the suspension of flexible work permits.

Decrease in Departures

Minister Humaidan discloses that only 1,347 workers left their positions, a decline compared to the 562,593 work permits issued. The cessation of flexible work permits, introduced in 2017, has been in effect since their suspension in October 2022.

Government Reforms

The decision to suspend flexible work permits aligns with directives from Crown Prince and Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, issued on October 5, 2022. This move was part of a series of reforms aimed at enhancing the labour market.
