Winfred Yavi Nominated for the Female Athlete of the Year Award

People in Bahrain will be proud to know that the Kingdom's Winfred Yavi is nominated for the 'Female Athlete of the Year' award, announced by the World Athletics. 

Yavi is among 11 nominees, which include female athletes from Ethiopia, Ukraine, Kenya, Netherlands, Japan, and other countries. 

Voting for the nominees is open online until Oct. 28 and the winner will be announced on Dec. 11, so head to the World Athletics website to vote for Yavi!

Yavi won the maiden world title in the women's 3,000m steeplechase and she also won her first-ever Diamond League champion's crown in the same field. 

Yavi also won two gold medals at the 19th Asian Games in the steeplechase and the women's 1,500m race. 

Yavi also set a new Asiad record by finishing the steeple chase in 9:18.28.

Her nomination is a source of pride for the people of Bahrain and for all aspiring female athletes in the country.
