Bahrain Just Broke a Record With the World’s Largest Rooftop Solar Power Plant

Bahrain is officially shining brighter on the sustainability map with the launch of the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar power plant.

The project, developed by Foulath Holding in partnership with Yellow Door Energy, was announced at the Gateway Gulf 2025 Forum. It will generate a whopping 123 megawatts of clean energy, including a 50-megawatt rooftop installation featuring 77,000 solar panels spread across 262,000 square meters at Foulath’s stockyard.

This move supports Bahrain’s push toward renewable energy and its Net Zero 2060 goal.

Powering Industry, Protecting the Planet

According to Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Bahrain’s Minister of Sustainable Development, the project “cements Bahrain’s role in renewable energy” and proves the country is serious about building a sustainable future.

Foulath Holding has already invested over USD 250 million in eco-friendly projects. Chairman Meshary Al Judaimi said this solar venture is part of the company’s plan to ensure that industrial growth and environmental care go hand in hand.

Sherif ElKholy, Chairman of Yellow Door Energy, called it a “landmark project” that sets a new global standard for carbon-free steel production — showing that clean energy can be both powerful and profitable.

Record-Breaking Energy Output

Once fully operational, the site will feature ten rooftop plants and four ground-mounted systems, producing 200 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy each year — enough to cut 90,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Dilip George, Group CEO of Foulath, described the milestone as a big step in the company’s “decarbonization journey,” solidifying Bahrain’s position as a regional leader in sustainable industrial innovation.

Yellow Door Energy will handle everything from financing and construction to operations under a long-term power purchase deal, letting Foulath save on energy costs while avoiding upfront expenses.
