2026 Bahrain Test Highlights: Lap Counts & Fastest Times

Formula 1 fans who closely track team performance after pre-season testing are dissecting the numbers from the opening 2026 Bahrain test, focusing on which teams logged the most laps and who delivered the fastest times at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The first of two 2026 pre-season sessions saw all 11 teams and 22 drivers accumulate crucial mileage, offering early clues about reliability and pace ahead of the new campaign. While several teams impressed on endurance, outright speed came from an unexpected source.

Mercedes sets the pace in Bahrain testing

Mercedes recorded the fastest lap of the test, with rookie Kimi Antonelli clocking a 1m 33.669s tour on the final day. George Russell had briefly topped the charts earlier, before Antonelli improved the benchmark.

Despite the headline time, Mercedes completed 282 laps — the second-lowest total of the session — and Russell admitted the team may have “taken a step back” after encountering technical issues midweek.

McLaren and Williams lead lap counts

In contrast, McLaren and Williams Racing shared top honours for mileage, each completing 422 laps across the three-day test.

McLaren paired reliability with competitiveness, posting a best time of 1m 34.549s through Oscar Piastri, while Williams — returning after missing the Barcelona shakedown — focused on gathering data, with Alex Albon setting their quickest lap at 1m 36.793s.

Ferrari and Red Bull show strong reliability

Scuderia Ferrari followed closely with 420 laps, underlining solid reliability despite a late stoppage for Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari’s fastest effort came via Hamilton at 1m 34.209s, as the team maintained a cautious outlook on their competitive standing.

Red Bull Racing logged 343 laps, with Max Verstappen posting a 1m 34.798s best. Rivals identified Red Bull as an early reference point, even as the team managed minor technical setbacks.

Midfield teams build crucial mileage

Haas F1 Team impressed with 390 laps and a 1m 35.394s fastest time from Ollie Bearman, while Audi F1 Team accumulated 353 laps in their first campaign under the German manufacturer, led by Nico Hulkenberg’s 1m 36.291s effort.

Alpine F1 Team completed 318 laps despite stoppages, and newcomer Cadillac Formula 1 Team reached 320 laps in what team officials described as a productive outing.

Aston Martin trails in mileage

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team ended the session with the lowest lap count at 206 and the slowest headline time, 1m 38.248s from Fernando Alonso. The team acknowledged a challenging start and emphasized the need to unlock more performance before the second Bahrain test.

With one more pre-season session remaining, the Bahrain numbers have given teams and fans an early snapshot of the 2026 pecking order — though engineers caution that testing times rarely tell the full story ahead of the season opener.
