Bahrain Midday Work Ban in Effect Until September 15

Bahrain’s Ministry of Labour has officially begun enforcing its annual midday work ban, aimed at protecting outdoor workers from the harsh summer heat. Effective from June 15 to September 15, the ban prohibits outdoor work between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. when temperatures and humidity levels typically soar.

Under the Ministerial Edict, employers are not allowed to assign tasks in direct sunlight or open spaces during these hours. The goal? To shield workers from serious heat-related illnesses and injuries, and to align with international labour standards for occupational safety.

Serious Penalties for Violators

Breaking the rule comes with steep consequences. Employers who violate the ban can face imprisonment of up to three months, fines between BD500 and BD1,000, or both.

Ministry Steps Up Awareness and Enforcement

The Ministry of Labour says it has fully prepared to implement the ban. Officials have conducted awareness workshops with safety officers and supervisors in the private sector, and have rolled out digital educational materials across social platforms to highlight the dangers of heat stress and midday exposure.

To ensure full compliance, the ministry has also set up a hotline (32265727) where the public can report any violations observed during the ban period.
