7 Jailed in Bahrain for Spreading Misinformation

Bahrain’s High Criminal Court has sentenced seven individuals to prison terms ranging from five to ten years for their roles in spreading misinformation and supporting Iranian attacks against the kingdom. The convictions, announced by prosecutors, relate to activities carried out during a recent period of heightened tension involving Iran.

The sentences were handed down across six separate cases involving social media posts that endorsed Iranian aggression, filmed sensitive infrastructure, and circulated false rumors intended to incite panic and undermine public security. In addition to the custodial sentences, the court fined some of the defendants 2,000 Bahraini dinars (approximately $5,300) each and ordered the confiscation of seized items used in the offenses.

Head of the Terrorism Crimes Prosecution stated that the rulings reflect the judiciary’s commitment to combating cyber-enabled threats to national stability. Authorities emphasized that the dissemination of fabricated information during times of conflict poses a significant risk to public order and security.
