Bahrain Tops the GCC for Most Affordable Fibre Broadband

The newest Arab Price Benchmarking Report reaffirms Bahrain's status as one of the most competitive telecom markets in the Arab region.

The country's telecom services are among the most competitively priced in both the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Arab world as a whole, according to the report.

The paper cites significant price reductions in home fixed broadband by 18.6 percent and mobile broadband by 16% percent between 2021 and 2022, which can be ascribed to the TRA's efforts to promote competition in the broadband industry.

According to the 2023 Fibre to The Home (FTTH) Broadband Global Ranking, Bahrain is among the top 20 nations in the world for fibre penetration.

Furthermore, mobile prices in Bahrain are the most affordable in the GCC, with a 58.5 percent decrease between 2021 and 2022.

This significant drop can be attributed to the introduction of new mobile packages offering lower prices and enhanced benefits.

Bahrain’s telecommunications industry is rapidly growing, with a 7.6 percent growth in fibre broadband subscriptions and a 7 percent increase in fixed broadband data usage between 2021 and 2022.

As of June 2023, 68 percent of households had active fibre connections, and 42 percent had wireless home broadband (5G), implying that all Bahraini households had access to ultra-fast broadband services.
