Bahrain Greenlights 6.7km Budaiya Road Upgrade to Ease Traffic

Traffic headaches in Budaiya may soon be a thing of the past.

Bahrain’s Ministry of Works has officially approved a 6.7-kilometre upgrade of Al Budaiya Road, a key route connecting Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway to Janabiya Road. The project is designed to smooth traffic flow, boost road safety, and make daily drives less stressful.

What’s Changing on Budaiya Road

The upgrade focuses on making the road wider, smarter, and safer. Planned improvements include:

  • Widened traffic lanes

  • Upgraded intersections

  • New service roads and pavements

These changes are aimed at easing bottlenecks and improving movement during peak hours.

Safer Roads, Better Infrastructure

Beyond traffic flow, safety is a big part of the plan. The project will also include:

  • Improved drainage systems

  • New street lighting

  • Protection of underground utilities

  • Landscaping along the route

Together, these upgrades are meant to create a smoother and safer experience for both drivers and pedestrians.

Part of Bahrain’s Bigger Mobility Push

Officials say the Budaiya Road project supports Bahrain’s wider effort to modernise its road network and keep up with growing traffic demands. Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to reduce congestion and make daily commuting easier for residents and visitors alike.

For anyone regularly stuck on Budaiya Road, help is officially on the way.
