How To Travel to and Move Around in Qatar During the World Cup

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has confirmed that World Cup fans will live an exciting atmosphere and unique experiences in Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar from November 20 to December 18.

Regarding how to travel to Qatar and move around during the World Cup by air, land, and sea, the Committee clarified on its website the following information:

By Air

All commercial flights will land at Hamad International Airport, while all private aircraft will land at Doha International Airport. If you are coming by air, find out what mode of transportation you can use to get to your accommodation.

Metro

Passengers arriving at Hamad International Airport can use the red line directly to central Doha from the T1 terminal.

Passengers can also purchase a rehlat card from any metro station.

from November 11 to December 23, 2022. Ticket holders can also use their digital Haya card and the Hayya to Qatar 2022 app, available on both iOS and Android, for free transportation by metro.

Public Buses

Karwa buses serve Hamad International Airport via several routes and lines that will be expanded before the start of the tournament.

Passengers can purchase smart cards available at vending machines and recharge public transport cards at the airport upon arrival, or they can also be purchased directly from the bus driver.

From 11 November to 23 December 2022, ticket holders can use their digital Haya card and the Hayya to Qatar 2022 app, available on both iOS and Android, for free transportation on public buses.

Rent A Car

You will find many car rental agents upon arrival at Hamad International Airport, but due to high demand, road closures, and diversions in the city, it is recommended to use public transportation for all your travels to and from downtown Doha.

Overland

To ensure an easy and safe journey to Qatar by road, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Abu Samra border crossing

Abu Samra crossing is located on the land border of the State of Qatar with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is located on Salwa Road.

During the tournament period, fans traveling by road will need a Haya card to enter Qatar, in addition to any other documents required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and must park their cars at the border, on the Saudi side.

After crossing the border, fans take a free bus (service B811) to the Messila Metro Station (Green Line), located near the metro and other transportation services.

On the way back, mass transit buses bring fans back to the land border from the Messila metro station (Green Line).

Fans are asked to reserve their bus seats and specify their estimated time of arrival at the land border via the Hayya to Qatar 2022 app to ensure there are enough buses.

More information will be provided prior to the tournament date.

By Sea

Qatar Tourism Authority schedules charter cruise ships that will be stationed at Hamad Port, and all travel arrangements for cruise ships will be organized by the cruise operators.

Cruise ship operators will arrange transportation to and from these ships.
