Morocco beats Canada 3-0 to reach World Cup quarters

Morocco's national football team, the Atlas Lions, delivered a brilliant and professional performance on Saturday, defeating World Cup co-hosts Canada 3-0 to comfortably advance to the quarter-finals.

A fantastic second-half double from Azzedine Ounahi and a late goal by Soufiane Rahimi sealed the victory for Morocco, who controlled the match from start to finish.

A Historic Weekend for Arab Football

This big win adds to an exciting weekend for football fans across the Arab world. Just a day earlier, Egypt thrilled supporters by defeating Australia on penalties to reach their first-ever World Cup knockout stage. Egypt will now face reigning world champions Argentina in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 7.

Morocco, however, is no stranger to making history on the global stage. In 1986, they became the first Arab nation to reach the knockout rounds. More recently, during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, they won the hearts of millions worldwide with a historic run to the semi-finals.

Experience and Young Talent Shine

The Atlas Lions showed their experience against Canada, a team they also defeated 2-1 during their memorable tournament run four years ago.

Key stars such as Achraf Hakimi, Yassine Bounou, Noussair Mazraoui, and Azzedine Ounahi remain central to the team's success. They are joined by exciting new talents, including 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi and Bayern Munich's Ismael Saibari, who scored the winning penalty against the Netherlands in the Round of 32.

Morocco entered the match as the favorites and proved their strength on the pitch. They will now face the winner of the match between France and Paraguay in the quarter-finals.
