Bahrain Launches AI Peace Projects at Jordan Forum

Bahrain is taking bold steps to promote peace and dialogue on a global stage, this time, through artificial intelligence. Speaking at an international forum in Jordan, Ali Abdulla Al Aradi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to using cutting-edge technology to support peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.

The launch of two new AI initiatives, Smart Assistant 1 and Smart Participant 1, marked a major milestone in Bahrain’s efforts. These tools were introduced as part of the Peace Schools Programme, organised in Jordan in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East). The event gathered global experts, researchers, and young people to explore how science and innovation can shape a more peaceful future.

AI for Peace and Progress

In his opening remarks, delivered virtually, Al Aradi stressed that these smart tools aim to support parliamentary and legislative work by embedding values of tolerance, dialogue, and understanding into daily operations. He also echoed the call by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for a global treaty on AI, one that ensures emerging technologies serve peace, development, and prosperity.

He highlighted how the AI tools align with the humanitarian vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Kingdom’s larger goals to use innovation for the benefit of all.

What Are Smart Assistant 1 and Smart Participant 1?

According to Abdulla Isa Al Mannai, Executive Director of the Centre, Smart Assistant 1 is a digital platform that helps executive and legislative institutions streamline their work. It can manage tasks, analyse data, prepare reports, and assist in smart decision-making.

Smart Participant 1 is geared towards improving engagement in conferences and dialogues. It uses AI to enhance interaction while emphasizing ethical governance and responsible tech use.

Al Mannai also moderated several panel discussions at the forum, focusing on how AI and scientific diplomacy can be tools for peace, and how innovation can help reject extremism and hatred.

Global Collaboration for a Peaceful Future

Al Aradi praised the Centre’s growing partnerships, especially with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, under an agreement focused on capacity building, legislation, and educational programs that promote tolerance and coexistence. He also acknowledged the strong cooperation with SESAME, which is helping to blend scientific research with peacebuilding.

Looking Ahead

The forum wrapped up with several recommendations. Key among them was a push to continue developing the AI core established by Bahrain and the IPU, and to create a dedicated AI curriculum for the upcoming session in Vietnam. Participants also urged the drafting of a code of ethics for AI, expected to be presented at the IPU General Assembly in October, to ensure tech is used responsibly in global peace efforts.

With this new chapter in AI-powered peacebuilding, Bahrain is showing that innovation and humanity can go hand in hand, setting an example for how tech can help build a better, more tolerant world.
