GCC Countries to Benefit From UK’s New e-Travel Authorization Scheme

A new electronic travel authorization (ETA) scheme is set to launch in February 2024 and will simplify the travel process for travelers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait to the UK.

As per authorities, Qatari tourists will be the first to be permitted to apply for an ETA in October 2023. The program will be spread worldwide throughout 2024. The system will allow travelers to go to the UK several times throughout the two years. Except for those with British or Irish passports, the ETA mandates that all non-visa entrants apply for authorization to travel before departure.

Applicants must provide biometric information and respond to a series of questions on their suitability as part of the pre-travel security checks that must be performed on travelers.

“I am delighted that our partners in the Middle East will be the first to benefit from the UK’s new scheme. Making travel smoother and more efficient for nationals coming from the GCC and Jordan will boost business and tourism links between the UK and the region,” the Minister of State for the Middle East, Lord Ahmad said.
